One of Our Legends

Makarim retired in 2007. He was quite unique in character; not straight forward but a brave horse whilst in training.  He came to us with more than his fair share of problems but managed to win six races for us during 2000-2006.

With six wins and numerous placings his most memorable placing was a close 3rd at Newbury (Class 3) when he was only beaten 1/2 length by Warrsan who went on to win six Group 1 races winning £1, 654,749.00

Makarim was bought by Martin for just £1,200 having proved a disappointment for his previous handler.  Makarim's winnings exceeded £40,000 a reflection of the success that is achievable at Martin Bosley Racing.

Makarim also played a pivotal role in launching George Baker's career (now leading flat jockey), when the pair struck up a winning relationship completing a three times winning sequence when George was just 17 yrs old.

Sadly Makarim lost the sight in one eye during the later part of his racing career, but still managed to gain another victory before retirement.  Now in happy retirement with his owner, Mrs Jean O'Connor.
